Move to the Pacific Northwest and First Solo Hike!

May 17, 2014

Wow....it's been a long time since I've shared a wandering time! Work has taken me to the Pacific Northwest, Seattle area. Arrived here after many troubles (as usual with my luck!) in the beginning of April. Pete drove with me, but just temporarily, as the sale of our house fell through. Argh. :-(

Driving out we had great weather the first 24 hours across all of the Midwestern states....

Until we jack knifed the uhaul and the four runner in Murdo, South Dakota on black ice and thought for sure we were ditch bound, but miraculously pulled out of it. Looking in the rear view mirror, the trailer still swaying to and fro, we made an unanimous decision to pull off of the highway at 10:30 am and grab a hotel room.

We found many openings at the Range Country. Here was our view over the span of an hour. In this hour, many more rooms filled up due to the weather.

Shackin' up in good ole Murdo!

We made sure to drive the 100 yards down to the buffalo restaurant for dinner. It did not disappoint.

Left early the next morning when we finally picked up good road conditions and some nice weather into Montana!

Stayed with our friends in Missoula for the night and left early again, the following morning to arrive into our new home state of Washington.

Well long story shortened.....because I'm not always the best at shortening....

We unpacked and settled into our new house, I started my new job, and Pete bought a BMW 1200 GS and played...

We are currently living in a suburb of Seattle...a bit different for us, coming from rural Ohio!

Yes, selfie....

Yes, another selfie after riding a horse.

Then Pete flew back to Ohio.... :-( almost four weeks ago now.

I decided I could wait no longer to explore. Why not try it on my own?

I purchased a few things at REI that I may need (I unfortunately left most of our hiking stuff at the house in Ohio, which will be out here soon, right Pete!?) ;-)

Decided I wanted to see the Olympic Peninsula. I had the weekend off of work. I found an easy hike in a book that I purchased and I started my drive after housework and errands, around mid day on a Saturday.

Quinault Lake in the Olympic National Forest. My map on my phone took me to rt. 101 then up some back roads with views of foot hills and cattle farms. Very eye catching for a driver (for once...I'm not the passenger!).

We (the dogs and myself) arrived on south shore road and right into the little paradise that Lake Quinault offers...

To be continued! This is an old post and have many adventures to share being out here with many more explorations. Still taking suggestions on great Washington camping/hiking! :-)
